I have been doing a lot of cleaning and clearing out junk from the house preparing for painters to come and paint. When I moved the dresser out of my bedroom, there was enough dog hair under it to cover three dogs! Most of it was Zoe hair because she slept on her bed between the dresser and the wall. That is when she wasn’t on my bed. I called that space “Zoeland” (Zoestahn?). I also found several tufts of Dudley-weeds (long hair dogs leave piles of hair that look like tumbleweeds). He would attempt to enter Zoeland when it stormed and he was afraid and she usually just growled at him to get out, but sometimes he flopped down anyway, so it makes sense that some of his hair got under the dresser, too.
I also found pictures that I hadn’t seen in ages! I found a batch that were developed in April 2001, which was just a few months after Zoe came to live with us. In my mind I got rid of Zoe’s pink collar within days of her arrival, but I see it in pictures that were probably taken a month or two after she came here to live.
Judging by the number of towels on the floor, I bet it was raining out the day I snapped the picture below. The red and white towel under the table was about as old as me. It appears in pictures we took at the beach in 1966. It wasn’t long before Zoe had chewed up both the towels and the rug in the picture.
Whenever I see MacKenzie leaping around next door, she always makes me think of Zoe. Dudley was a twirler, he’d jump around in a circle, but Zoe would jump and twist and MacKenzie has some similar moves. Sometimes Dudley would be in the kitchen twirling for a carrot and Zoe would fly in and and nip at his ears, which judging by his snorts of disgust, didn’t make him very happy. I’d laugh and give both of them their carrot and all was right with the world again. Take oodles and oodles of pictures of your pets. When they’re gone, they will bring back happy memories!

I have found when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source. ~ Doris Day
The memories of Ginger by photograph are incredible. I still miss her…. The dropping of my feet every so lightly to make sure she wasn’t there when I got up has lingered on for many, many years. It was December 22, 2004 when she passed and it seems like just yesterday. What I would give to give her a head smooch just once more. She was the love of my life. I feel that emptiness…. Good job, girl! Well done with the tribute to Jam Master D and our Z-girl.
I still scoot my chair back from my computer cautiously because I’m so used to Dudley being there, of course he would tell you that sometimes I still managed to bump him. I wish I had a million more pictures of those hounds!
All my girls are basically rescues and I would not have it any other way. My old girl Jade will be 18 this year and so her time is short with me. She is my comfort just like Zoe and Dudley were for you
I didn’t realize Jade was such a senior citizen. I really believe that rescued animals have a sense of gratitude.
I love your memories of Zoe and Dudley. You gave them very good lives, and I know they loved you deeply for that.
If they loved me half as much as I loved them, I am one lucky person!
Awww . . .
I have that wonderful picture of Ace, Susie and Ursa hanging in my office. All 3 were standing on the mulch pile in the backyard watching Steve and I load up the car for a trip to Philly. It just happened to start to snow and I had the camera right there in the car. Timing was everything and this photo is filled with stories and joy. I am sure my gang is hanging out with Zoe and Dudley telling stories about us!
Ace, Susie and Ursa were great dogs! I wish I had a great picture of Dudley and Zoe together. Dudley didn’t like the digital camera, every time he’d see me with it, he’d get up and walk away. You ought to scan it so you have a digital copy just in case.

Thanks for stopping by!
Such sweet fur babies. My two (Tuck and Sophie) should send you a Thank You card. They always get a few extra skritches and belly rubs after I read your posts.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you’re connected to the world again!
