I have great neighbors. Mike and Carlin moved next door about 7 or 8 years ago. They just had Bourbon then, but it wasn’t long before MacKenzie joined the family. Carlin was finishing grad school at NCSU and one day a white pit bull mix started following her around campus. Carlin brought her home and named her MacKenzie, but everyone calls her Kenz or Kenzi. I usually call her KenziGirl or MackieGirl. Kenz is a high energy girl and sweet as can be.
Much like his namesake, Bourbon is pretty mellow. He’s attained senior status, he’s about 12 or 13 now. Mike rescued Bourbon from a neighbor who wanted to take him to the pound for really no good reason. Bourbon is a lab mix with I’m guessing a little hound, something about his eyes reminds me of a Basset Hound. But it could also be a little coon hound in his blood.
My yard has a fence and for years I had trouble keeping Zoe contained. Bourbon and Kenzie don’t have a fenced in yard, but they run out in their back yard and do their business and Kenzie will do a few laps and then they go back into the house. Obviously, the humans are in charge in that household! If Carlin is working in the yard, they’ll stay with her and not run off. Honestly, one time Dudley was loose and completely ignoring my pleas for him to come; Carlin called him once and he bounded right over to her. Bourban and Kenzi always welcomed Zoe with open paws when she went on her unapproved visits next door.
Molly the cat also lives with them, but she was not posing for pictures. She’s black and sleek and used to scare the crap out of Dudley. Mike and Carlin also have a little boy who is about to have his first birthday (actually his second when you consider the real “birth” day was his first). Carlin has offered up Bourbon as a walking companion for me. I mentioned when I walked now, I missed the breaks when Dudley decided he need to sniff 472 blades of grass before he decided which one to pee on. The tightness of my jeans tells me I need to take her up on it. Off to watch the second half of the Puppy Bowl, it’s way too cute!

They are beautiful. I know how you feel. I got sic at the beginning of the month and I have not walked as much as I used to and my jeans are tight. My girlfriend told me, “don’t worry, your jeans shrunk.” Yeah right.
Cynthia is a wise woman LOL.
MacKenzie and Bourbon look and sound like great neighbors! I might have to borrow the name Bourbon for my next dog.
He’s not the first canine Bourbon or Whiskey that I’ve met
What great neighbors you have–the humans, the dogs, and the elusive cat. I must say I have a fondness for Bourbon . . . the drink and the handsome senior dog!
Bourbon is a sweetie. I didn’t mention in the blog but their human mom cleaned my gutters for a 12-pack. I really couldn’t ask for better neighbors!!
